Figure 1-1 shows the default Photoshop window. At the top of the window, you can see the most important panel, the Photoshop window itself. At the center of this panel is an editor window that allows you to edit your image; here you can also view the image's layers. At the bottom of this panel is a toolbox for you to drag the tools you use most frequently to the tools palette; the tools palette is not visible by default. To the left of the tools palette is a well-organized menu for accessing some of Photoshop's most useful functions and settings. Other panels with the same purpose may also be visible.

Photoshop is actually the name of one of Photoshop's components and not of the entire software. Although it's installed and available on all computers, you can only use the Photoshop app when you launch Adobe Photoshop. You never have to run the full Photoshop program to do anything in Photoshop. (I discuss the Photoshop app more in Chapter 3.)

Photoshop's Layers Panel

The most important panel in Photoshop is the Layers Panel, which is divided into two main sections. The first section shows a layer icon for each layer you created. The second section shows a tab for each layer's tool palette (refer to Figure 1-1). Each tool in this toolbox is represented by a tab and contains tool options.

The Layers panel is always visible in the default state. You can open it by clicking the Layers button in the Photoshop window's toolbar (refer to Figure 1-1), by choosing View⇒Layers, or by right-clicking anywhere in the Photoshop window and choosing Layers from the context menu that appears.

To add a new layer, you first select the layer by double-clicking it in the Layers Panel. For example, if you select an image, you can choose Image⇒New Layer to add a new blank layer. If you select a layer of text, you can choose Layer⇒New Layer from the menu to add a new layer of text.

You can also choose File⇒New from the menu to get started. However, the File⇒New option is not a live workspace, so it usually requires you to select an image, open a new file, or open an existing

Restriction of cytotoxic T lymphocyte alloreactivity correlates with the ability of donor T cells to proliferate in mixed leukocyte cultures.
The generation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) and IgM-secreting B cells by recipient spleen cells specific for minor transplantation antigens (tAg) was studied in a partially inbred strain combination with the following four types of donor: Ts1lps, Ts1rps, Ts2rps, and Ts2lps. The effector and stimulator cells were mixed at various ratios on day 0 and cultured in either the presence or absence of 10% (v/v) spleen cells of the Ts2lps donors. Five days later, the reaction was terminated and, after three washes to remove unbound cells, CTL were detected by an alloreactive, selective lysis of Fc-receptor-positive Ts1rps target cells. Stimulator spleen cells obtained from the Ts1rps donors proliferated in response to Ts1lps stimulator cells in the presence of Ts2lps responders, but failed to proliferate in the presence of Ts2lps responder cells. In contrast, although there was some proliferation of Ts1lps responders in response to Ts1rps stimulator cells, these cells generated CTL only in the presence of Ts2rps responders. These data suggest that the proliferative response in mixed leukocyte culture is affected by restriction of T cells within the responding donor population.

The Smudge tool allows you to pick up a small amount of colour and smear it over an area of the image.

In this lesson we will explore the basic details for using Photoshop brushes and brushes in general
WHAT ARE BRUSHES?
A brush is a collection of dots or a collection of lines that are used to apply colour and textures to a specific area of the photo. In Photoshop, brushes are created using a set of pixels and a stroke.
1. OPEN THE SELECTION CRITERIA
2. Choose Brush and click on the Browse button on the top right hand corner.
3. Browse your desktop and click Open.
4. Select Photoshop’s Brush Tool Brush, and press the OK Button.
5. You should see a menu at the top left corner of your screen with a black brush on it.
6. Choose a brush style.
You can either create a new brush style, or choose a pre-defined style from the Brush menu.
7. The brush that you select will change to a different colour, and add it to the Brush menu.
8. You can create a brush from a colour gradient, a gradient or an image that is currently open.
9. You can create a brush from a gradient, an image or the colour that is currently open.
To create a brush from a colour, navigate your colour palette until you find a colour that you want to use to create your brush.
Use the arrows on the right side of the colour palette to navigate through the colours. The bottom row of the colour palette lets you choose a colour.
With the colour palette, you can create a brush from the currently open image as well. The menu is at the top left.
10. Click on the brush that you want to use. Photoshop will ask you whether you want to save the brush or not.
